Everyone loves the month of May. Warmer spring weather, flowers blooming, and birds singing are all reasons to admire this busy month. From May Day to Mother’s Day to Memorial Day, and many Days in between, we can find just about anything to celebrate. MORE HEALTH would like to recognize and celebrate our two generous hospital partners during National Hospital Week.
- Tampa General Hospital
Tampa General Hospital became MORE HEALTH’S founding partner in 1992 and has been supporting MORE HEALTH’S mission of providing health and safety education to children, teens and adults. This support has translated to educating over 100,000 students each year in Hillsborough County. Interesting Facts: TGH is one of the top organ transplant centers in the country and performed the state’s first successful heart transplant in 1985. It is the ONLY Level 1 Trauma Center in the region, serving over 20 surrounding counties. TGH was ranked as the #1 hospital in Tampa Bay by U.S. News & World Report for 2021-22, marking the sixth consecutive year for this achievement. TGH is also home to the Florida Poison Information Center – Tampa, one of just three poison information centers in the state.
- Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital
Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital became MORE HEALTH’S Pinellas County partner in 2005 and has been instrumental in helping us educate over 50,000 students each year. Interesting Facts: When founded in 1926, what is now Johns Hopkins All Children’s, was the first children’s hospital in the state of Florida. Supported by “Doc” Huggins and his local American Legion Post, the hospital began in a converted citrus packing house and was a special place for children suffering from the Polio epidemic, regardless of their race, religion, or ability to pay. The first Ronald McDonald House in the state of Florida opened here in 1980. Florida’s first sextuplets were born and cared for in the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit.
