In MORE HEALTH’s Brain “Mission Control” lesson, fifth graders learn about the functions of the brain and the importance of good decision-making in protecting the brain and spinal cord from injury. As students return to the classroom this fall, in addition to consistent physical fitness activities, practice these healthy habits in your child’s daily routine:
- Begin each day by choosing to eat a healthy, nutritious breakfast
- Always wear a helmet when riding a bike or scooter, rollerblading or skateboarding
- Wear a seat belt while riding in a vehicle
- Avoid riding in a vehicle with someone who has been drinking alcohol, taken prescription medication, or who is texting and driving
- Always into the water with feet first, and never dive in head first
- Encourage your child to read and also engage in reading with your child
