This time of year can feel like a whirlwind, with summer vacations ending and preparations for the school year just beginning. Whether you have a school-age child or grandchild, the “going back to school” season affects us all. Here are some tips to help smooth the transition and avoid chaos this time of year.
Families with School-Age Childen
- A week or two before the first day of school, establish a sleep schedule that gets the entire household ready for early mornings
- Create and discuss rules that address when and where homework is completed
- Plan for providing nutritional breakfasts, lunches, and snacks during the week
- Teach stress relief techniques and maintain open lines of communication
- Take advantage of a school’s open house to visit the campus and meet the teacher
- Map out the best route to and from school and discuss the transportation alternatives that suit your family’s needs
- Review the “Rules of the Road” regarding pedestrian, bicycle, and bus safety
- Shop early for back-to-school supplies and clothing
- Choose backpacks that fit well and provide ample organization compartments
While the schools have been closed, MORE HEALTH has been very busy preparing to return to the classrooms. September 24th is our official day to start teaching our health and safety lessons to the students in Hillsborough, Pinellas, and Pasco counties. We are excited to start another school year educating students and their families on how to live healthy and safe lives.
